It would be natural for an outsider to assume that the American art market is concerned only with multi-million dollar contemporary auctions. Amy Gale's Shows, Shops & Auctions, Essays on the Antiques Trade (Witlings Press, 6.99 ) disposes of that belief. Having 'worked her way down the career ladder from the Upper East Side to an East Harlem salvage yard', Miss Gale has been a dealer and cataloguer as well as a librarian and market journalist. She writes of the American market with flair and common sense.
